African Coalition for Development (“ACD,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to advancing Africa’s development through leadership, advocacy, youth engagement, partnerships, events, community programs, and development-focused initiatives.

This Donation Policy explains how donations, sponsorships, charitable contributions, recurring gifts, event support, and program support are processed, used, acknowledged, and managed by ACD.

By making a donation or contribution to ACD, you agree to the terms outlined in this Donation Policy.

1. Purpose of Donations

Donations to ACD support our mission to advance Africa’s development through programs and initiatives focused on:

Leadership development
Youth engagement
Education
Advocacy
Community programs
Diaspora engagement
Partnerships
Events and forums
Development-focused initiatives
Operational and administrative support necessary to carry out our mission

Unless otherwise agreed in writing by ACD, donations may be used where they are most needed to support the organization’s mission and operations.

2. 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Status

ACD is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Contributions to ACD may be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Donors should consult their own tax advisor regarding their specific tax situation.

ACD does not provide legal, tax, financial, or accounting advice.

3. Donation Methods

ACD may accept donations through:

Recurring monthly giving

Program sponsorships

Online payments may be processed by third-party payment processors such as Stripe or other authorized providers.

4. One-Time Donations

One-time donations are voluntary contributions made to support ACD’s mission, programs, events, and operations.

Once submitted, one-time donations are generally considered final, except in limited circumstances described in the refund section below.

5. Recurring Monthly Donations

Donors may choose to support ACD through recurring monthly donations.

By selecting a recurring donation option, you authorize ACD or its payment processor to charge your selected payment method at the recurring amount and frequency you selected.

6. Sponsorships and Program Support

ACD may accept sponsorships or program-specific contributions from individuals, companies, foundations, organizations, or partners.

Sponsorships may support:

ACD events
Youth development programs
Leadership forums

Community programs
Media and awareness campaigns
Regional or diaspora engagement activities
General mission support

If a sponsorship includes benefits, recognition, promotional placement, event access, or other goods or services, the tax-deductible portion may be limited. The IRS requires charities to provide disclosure for quid pro quo contributions over $75, where a donor receives goods or services in exchange for part of the contribution.

7. Donation Acknowledgments and Receipts

ACD may provide donation acknowledgments or receipts for donor records.

For charitable contributions of $250 or more, donors generally need a written acknowledgment from the charitable organization to claim a deduction. The acknowledgment should state whether any goods or services were provided in exchange for the contribution.

Statement regarding whether goods or services were provided
Any other information required or appropriate for donor records

8. Refund Policy

Donations are generally non-refundable because they are voluntary charitable contributions.

However, ACD may review refund requests on a case-by-case basis in limited situations, including:

Duplicate transactions
Processing errors
Unauthorized transactions
Incorrect donation amount entered by mistake
Technical payment issues

We may share limited donor information with trusted service providers that help us process donations, issue receipts, manage donor records, send communications, operate our website, or comply with legal and accounting obligations.

10. Donor Communications

Donors may receive:

Receipts or acknowledgments

Fundraising appeals

ACD plans to communicate with donors and supporters about our mission, programs, and fundraising needs. Where applicable, fundraising or marketing emails should include an unsubscribe option. FTC CAN-SPAM guidance states that marketing email recipients should have a clear way to opt out of future marketing messages.

11. Restricted Donations

From time to time, a donor may wish to support a specific program, event, or initiative.

ACD may accept restricted donations only when the restriction is approved in writing by ACD and aligns with our mission, legal obligations, and operational capacity.

If a restricted purpose cannot be fulfilled, ACD may contact the donor where reasonable or may use the funds for a similar mission-aligned purpose, subject to applicable law and organizational policy.

12. Corporate and Foundation Giving

ACD may accept contributions from companies, foundations, institutions, and organizations.

Corporate or foundation contributions may be structured as:

Charitable donations
Event sponsorships
Program sponsorships
Grant support
Strategic partnership support

ACD reserves the right to decline any donation, sponsorship, or partnership that does not align with our mission, values, legal requirements, or organizational standards.

13. Donation Refusal Rights

ACD reserves the right to refuse, return, or decline a donation if we determine that accepting the contribution may:

Conflict with ACD’s mission or values
Create legal, ethical, reputational, or compliance concerns
Impose unreasonable restrictions
Create a conflict of interest
Require obligations ACD cannot fulfill

14. Use of Third-Party Payment Processors

ACD may use third-party payment processors to securely process online donations and payments.

These providers may collect payment information, billing details, and transaction data according to their own privacy policies and terms.

ACD does not intentionally store full credit card numbers on its website or internal systems.

ACD may update this Donation Policy from time to time.

When changes are made, the effective date at the top of this page will be updated.
